What is creativity?
In simple terms – “It is use of one’s imagination or original ideas to create something new.” Creativity is also synonymous to “inventiveness”. Just think about the greatest inventions till date & wonder how the creative minds of their inventors worked that lead to new inventions altogether. There was indeed something unique about them. So the question is whether this creativity is learned or acquired? Do you know the answer? I definitely not! But I do believe anything can be mastered by simply learning & practicing over & over.
Nowadays, my facebook & instagram feeds are full of activities/ games that we can do to improve creativity in kids. But you know what I am overwhelmed with those ideas. And I just scroll down the feed. I neither try doing all of them with my baby nor would my baby support me. I am sure. Mostly, I try keeping things simple. I love KISS. Keeping It Short & Simple. I recommend using this strategy to all moms. It makes life much manageable.
My daughter is 2.6 years old & currently, we are doing the following activities. That I believe is enough for her & of course for mommy. Without any of these activities, our day is incomplete!
An outing to the park makes mom & baby gleeful
I wrote this article sometime back – “Why I take my toddler to the park everyday” & I feel park offers a best play-area for kids. It helps in the all-round development of the child. Read the post to know more on this & yes, be wary of the mosquito bites; do use some mosquito repellent to keep them at bay.
Books are an integral part of our bed-time routine
I have seen & read that we should start reading to kids when they are not even a month old. I remember when Mark Zuckerberg posted this photo on his facebook profile & how it went viral. Do take note of the title on the book. Can you imagine? By the way, I started reading to my baby a few months ago & she loves listening to stories that I tell her. In fact, it has become her bed-time routine now. So, whenever she feels sleepy, she would tell – “Mumma, stoie (story).” I have purchased big picture books for her. During reading the story – I familiarize her with the characters of the story & later, ask her to tell me the name of the character. Not only, it is helping us in improving her imagination skills but also it will set the foundation of reading & learning skills in her.
Creating new structures using Building Blocks
Nowadays, this is her favorite activity. Playing building blocks as soon as she wakes up! She asks me and hubby to play along as well. And after building a long structure, she gives such a wide & cheery smile & says – ‘WOW’. Then, what we do is feel proud & happy and clap for her. She feels accomplished. Apart from improving kid’s motor skills, building blocks activity gives mental stimulus in child & helps improve his/ her creativity.
Crayons can be found everywhere in our home
In the form of scribbling on the walls, some marks on the floor & of course on the paper of her books. She is very fond of her crayons & very meticulously keeps them in her small pouch bag. There are numerous benefits of coloring with crayons. To make it brief – It enhances creativity in kids, improves their motor skills & makes their grip stronger. And always remember, a blank piece of paper & a box of crayons can inspire great stories & beautiful pictures.
We love dancing together
Dancing is in my daughter’s genes (inherited from her dad) & whenever she listens to her favorite song, asks us (me & my hubby) to get up & join her on the floor. Whenever we take her to some party or function, many of the times, she is the only toddler dancing in the middle with a group of adults. She becomes the center-of-attraction & people can’t stop themselves by clicking her pictures. On seeing her dancing in the middle, I could see her as a confident girl, who loves being social & trying different moves, on the floor.
That’s all from our side. 🙂
What do you do, to give your child – a creative stimulus?
