When I started working in 2011, after completing my MBA I had no idea that one day I will become a Mom Blogger and take up Blogging as a full-time career option. I wanted to make it big in the corporate world and I was too ambitious and serious about my career in the digital marketing. I used to love my job and the field I was in. I was a workaholic. I always preferred doing some research instead of gossiping about office politics. And when I left my job I was making good money and the decision to leave the job to become a stay-at-home-mom was the toughest one to take but I had no other alternative. I had to forego an exciting career, a handsome salary and my desire to move ahead in the corporate ladder. It was difficult, shattering and totally, inexplicable in words. But, I embraced motherhood without any guilt because it was my decision to become a mother.
Now, blogging for me is not only a way to vent out my feelings and frustrations as it used to be few months ago. Today, blogging to me is a serious business, through which I want to reach out to the world and make a mark in people’s lives. I know for a new blogger like me it is too ambitious and kind of day dreaming but I know I want to crack it.
This is my first gratitude post and through this post, I want to thank social media and the digital media, for giving me the opportunity to become a ‘Mom Blogger’ and a ‘Mompreneur’. Yes, after two years of giving birth to a child, I have become a MOMPRENEUR, who is learning the ropes to earn from home. All credits to internet and technology, for making things possible for me. We tech-savvy mothers should not feel bad about our lost opportunities, rather think of tapping the true potential of internet and technology to become self-employed and financially independent.
Wikipedia defines Mompreneur as “a female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur”.
This term – Mompreneur sounds very respectable and fascinating and every woman should feel pride in calling herself a ‘Mompreneur’; and let me tell you – with a laptop and an internet connection it is very easy to become one. All you need is persistence and clear vision. In future, I am planning to start a separate series to share the ideas of earning-from-home and as I myself is a novice in this area so I will share as I learn. Presently, as a mommy blogger I am earning few bucks and it could be made possible because of my background of working with a digital agency. I started this blog because I was confident enough that I would surely make it successful and would be able to generate income out of it. You know what how I landed my first dream job, it was through LinkedIn. I would write a separate blog post on it. I think this social media is very interesting and if one uses its true potential then, he/ she can earn thousands and lakhs and set up a very strong personal brand.
I feel a tech savvy woman (mother) of today is not required to step out (leaving baby behind) to earn. Please do if you have a support system and you love your job but if it is out of necessity, then my suggestion is do some online research and create your own blog (of something you are passionate about) and read blogs about making money online to find out ways to earn from the comfort of your home. My next post will be about how you can become a Mommy Blogger and in a week, check if it is a right career option for you.
I believe, what happened to me is a great example of serendipity – first an exciting career in dynamic social media industry and then, becoming an accidental mom blogger and starting my own self-hosted blog DigiMother.
I hope all you stay-at-home-moms and working moms, who want to get rid off their jobs will find some kick (to leverage the technology in hand) reading this gratitude post. Do read my other posts and connect with me on your favorite sites:
