Recently, I got to know about this perilous fact that- “Indoor air can be up to five times more polluted than outdoor air and it can have a severe impact on one’s health”. After reading this statement, I had this feeling that if our homes are not safe then, where we can hide with our family for a healthy and safe living.
After reading a few articles on internet, I found out that poor quality of air can have far-reaching and serious health effects. The bad quality of air influences the efficacy of air-borne disease transmission; Air-borne diseases include any that are caused by pathogens and transmitted through the air. The health-problems associated with poor air quality ranges from respiratory diseases (such as asthma, coughing, sore-throats, lung-cancer, and other chronic and acute respiratory diseases) to severe developmental conditions like autism. Not only this, the germs in polluted air also affect the immunity of the child; reason being the immune system of the child is still developing along with his body, it’s not fully developed. As my daughter is just 3yo and is very prone to catching the above mentioned health problems, I need to be more proactive in taking the required actions to facilitate the clean air in our home. It is very important to provide a healthy and germ-free environment for the proper physical and mental growth of our children. Though we cannot fully control the external agents causing air pollution but we ‘Mothers’ can definitely take a step and contribute towards developing a clean environment by making small (yet significant) changes in our home.
Symptoms of Indoor Air Pollution:-
- Worsening asthma, allergies, and other respiratory problems
- Headaches & nausea
- Shortness of breath
- Sinus congestion, sneezing & cough
- Memory loss, dizziness, fatigue & depression
It is very important to address the potential causes of indoor air quality problems. If left untreated, air quality issues can have a very detrimental impact on our health. Research is showing that people are now spending as much 90 percent of their time indoors, and if the indoor air is polluted, this could pose a significant health risk.
The top 5 tricks to ensure clean home and better living:-
Proper ventilation: I make sure to have windows and doors opened for a few hours every morning and evening. I already have exhaust fans installed in my bathroom and kitchen. And yes, an electric chimney in the kitchen is a must have in today’s time.
Ensuring fresh air with indoor plants: Indoor plants in a living room can significantly increase the inflow of fresh air. These plants help absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Research also indicates that plants take in much of the unhealthy gaseous chemicals in the air. I have Spider Plant and Golden Pothos in my home. As we have shifted to a bigger house with wider balcony space on the ground floor, I am planning to have more indoor plants in the coming months.
Dusting that dirt away: Dusting and vacuuming should be done on every alternate day to avoid getting in contact with the dust particles. It can cause allergies. Big thanks to my maid for doing this difficult task for me and my family.
Keeping carpets neat and clean: Carpets attract and trap unhealthy particles. Damp carpets too are a hotbed of proliferating germs. I get them dry-cleaned often.
Fixing that leak: Excessive moisture and humidity indoors; gives impetus to air-borne diseases like asthma and various other chronic health diseases. I got a thorough check by my plumber and he’s done all the fixes.
Paint that helps purify air: Asian Paints has recently launched this breakthrough product – ‘Royale Atmos’, a paint that reduces harmful air pollutants and makes the air cleaner with its Activated Carbon Technology. Additionally, it also absorbs various foul smells & makes the air fresher. Thus, it is a first of its kind paint that not only looks beautiful, but also cleans the air making it purer than before. Royale Atmos is the first Asian Paints product to have a fragrance, instead of the normal chemical smell of paints. This Diwali, to get Royal Atmos in your home, click here.
I am thinking of getting my home air pollutants-free with Royal Atmos. What about you?
